The King Of Pop's 1982 record beat competition from Craig David, Guns N' Roses and Radiohead.
"I don't think there'll ever be another album like it ever in the history of music. There will never be a marriage of producer and artist and song writing and pop sensibility - it just won't happen again," DJ Trevor Nelson said.
Craig David's debut album Born To Do It came in a shock second place, receiving 12% of the vote. Guns N' Roses's Appetite For Destruction was voted third most popular, while Radiohead's OK Computer was at number four. Nirvana's 1991 LP Nevermind completed the top five.
Speaking about his success, David said: "I am very grateful to the viewers of MTV who have voted Born To Do It as the second best album of all time - not only am I incredibly proud, it is an amazing achievement especially when I look at all the other albums in the top 100!"
However, Radio One DJ Zane Lowe remained unconvinced that David deserved to finish so high in the countdown.
"Should it be number two in the greatest album of all time? No, in my opinion, but I'm not going to begrudge anyone's success, and if his fans voted for it then what's encouraging for me is that they still consider that record to be an important part of their lives and that's what music is," he said.
