The group have been writing new songs on the road as they continue to promote their 2008 disc The Seldom Seen Kid.
"We never thought we'd still be touring and promoting the album at this point - it's gone crazy," Potter told the Daily Star. "But we're determined to crack on with writing the new one and getting it out by September 2010.
"We've been setting up little writing rooms in every place we tour - it's nice because it's become like a musical journal of our life on the road."
The band first started recording the album in February while on the remote Scottish island of Mull.
Speaking at the time, frontman Guy Garvey commented: "[It's] the most beautiful place on earth."
