It is the first time the event, which was established in 1995 and celebrates music of black origin, has been staged outside of London.
"We are delighted to be able to announce that the MOBO music awards show for 2009 will take place in Glasgow," founder Kanya King MBE said.
"Throughout MOBO's history we have prided ourselves on finding innovative ways to bring MOBO music and stellar artist performances to our audience and this year we are making another unprecedented move by bringing the awards to Scotland."
Estelle, Dizzee Rascal and Leona Lewis all picked up awards at last year's ceremony.
The MOBOs have an estimated annual global audience reach of 250 million across 60 countires.
