Duffy, Coldplay lead Ivor Novellos shortlist

Duffy's 'Mercy' and Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' will compete for the most performed work and best selling British song prizes, while their parent LPs will go head to head for the album award.
Other songs nominated for this year's Ivor Novello Awards, which recognise excellence in British music writing during 2008, include 'Sweet About Me' by Gabriella Cilmi, 'That's Not My Name' by The Ting Tings and 'Dance Wiv Me' by Calvin Harris.
Nick Hemming, a part-time musician from Staffordshire who is currently employed as a warehouse worker, received this year's most unexpected nomination. 'The Last Of The Melting Snow', a song he wrote for his band The Leisure Society, will compete against singles by Elbow and The Last Shadow Puppets in the best song musically & lyrically category.
This year's Ivor Novello Awards, presented by Paul Gambaccini, will take place at London's Grosvenor House on May 21.
