Doves 'missed No.1 album by four CDs'
Doves have said that they missed out on having a third consecutive number one album by just four record sales.

The band told The Guardian that their third LP Kingdom Of Rust was beaten to the top of the charts by less than a handful of purchases.

Drummer Andy Williams said: "We felt a bit unlucky last month. We got beaten to number one by four copies. Lady Gaga sold 46,200 and we sold 46,196.

"I'm not competitive at all, but when I did the maths I thought, that's four CDs, man."

Bassist Jimi Goodwin added: "Apparently, it's the most closely contested number one in the history of the charts."

The band previously revealed that they celebrated their chart success with "a monumental piss-up".
