According to The Sun, the singer decided against hiring the magician for his 50-date O2 residency because of his financial demands and instead opted for Mindfreak star Criss Angel.
An insider said: "Michael wants to use loads of illusions to ensure that his shows at the O2 are as explosive and entertaining as possible.
"He was so excited about working with David but fell out with him over the money he wanted."
The source added: "Michael told David he would be wasting his time with the London residency if he was splashing out so much on just one person. So he told him the deal was off.
"But Criss is a superb entertainer and Michael's delighted to have him on board - not least because he costs less."
