Entitled 'Little Buddy', the verse was written by Dylan for the newspaper at Herzl Camp in Webster, Wisconsin when he stayed there as a teenager, The AP reports.
Former camper and editor of the Herzl Herald Lisa Heilicher said: "I kept it with all of my stuff that I collected from camp.
"When I realised how famous he had become, I put it in a piece of plastic and stuck it in an encyclopedia."
The verse was kept under the letter Z for Zimmerman, the name the singer was born with and still known by as a 16-year-old.
The poem about a dog beaten to death by a drunk opens: "Broken hearted and so sad/Big blue eyes all covered with tears/Was a picture of sorrow to see."
