Timothy Korpa recently contacted the band about taking the 1984 LP on his next mission to outer space, Billboard reports. He plans to take snapshots of the crew with the album during the voyage.
"Now it's official. We are the coolest band in the universe," singer Ian McColloch said. "As a kid I dreamt of being an astronaut, and now in a way it feels like I'm fulfilling that dream.
"I cannot wait to hear from Tim what it is like to listen to 'The Killing Moon' in the actual glow of the moon," he added.
Ocean Rain is scheduled to be reissued as a deluxe version on May 30.
