The Scottish singer admitted that his record label was adamant that the first track from second LP Sunny Side Up should not be too upbeat.
"'Pencil Full Of Lead' should have been the first release but the label wanted me to do a ballad," he told The Sun.
The 22-year-old insisted that he would try to get his own way with the album's second release.
"I like 'Candy' but 'Pencil Full Of Lead' is so much fun. Hopefully it will be out next," he said.
Sunny Side Up is out on June 1.
