Battlefield - Sparks's follow-up to her self-titled 2007 debut - is due for release on July 21, but only the lead single and title track are guaranteed to make the final version.
"At the moment 'Battlefield' is the only song that's on the album for sure," Sparks told DS. "We have over 30 songs to choose from and we could go in so many different directions. We could go dance, we could go pop, we could go R&B, we could go a little bit more rock.
"With all those choices, and knowing 'Battlefield' is going to be on it, we want to make sure that everything blends and slots together nicely. We don't want to just throw everything in a pot and say, 'Here's an album'."
Sparks, who will finalise the record's tracklisting next week, also revealed that she has been more involved in the songwriting process second time around.
"Of the 30 songs, I've helped to write about 12, so I'm hoping some of those will make the album. I know I'm going to fight for them!" she said.
Jordin Sparks's new single, 'Battlefield', is available to download from June 8.
