The group, who release new LP Jewellery Quarter in July, said that they struggled to live up to the public's expectations after coming second in the BBC Sound of 2007 poll.
"At one point we were the most hyped band around," frontman Phil Etheridge told the Daily Star.
"It can be a curse when one minute it's all great, then the next everyone hates you."
The Twang's debut album Love It When I Feel Like This reached number three in July 2007.
