In a statement posted on their official website, the band confirmed that they will be heading into the studio with producer Brendan O'Brien within the "next few weeks".
"[O'Brien] has previously worked with AC/DC, Mastodon, Bruce Springsteen, and Pearl Jam, among others. He's good," said the message.
Earlier this year, frontman Gerard Way announced that the lyrics had already been written, but the group had not "chosen a path yet", explaining: "It's going to be less layered than Black Parade - I do expect it to be a little more raw."
The untitled album, their fourth full-length LP, is scheduled for release later this year or early 2010.
