The rapper, real name Shad Gregory Moss, has been signed to the record label since releasing his debut album Beware Of The Dog in 2000.
"I'm asking to be released. No, they are not dropping me. I'm asking. Not happy there. Been like this for four, five years," Contactmusic quotes him as writing on his Twitter.
"I think Columbia's problem is that they don't know how to work with rappers. I'm really the only rapper on that label. My labelmates consist of John Legend, who they work extremely well with and Beyoncé Knowles who they work extremely well with.
"But, when it comes to rappers, they're not really a rap label, they don't get it...They're not young and I'm a young guy...so they don't really understand what the young people want."
Bow Wow went on to say that he was hoping to sign with Atlantic Records instead and urged his fans to join a 'Free Bow Wow' campaign to help facilitate the move.
