The 'Vulture' singer told The Quietus that he was suspicious of those obsessed with money because they will always try to take things and make them more commercially successful.
Wolf said: "I think around album three when people decided I needed to work with a lifestyle producer, or someone who'd make my music acceptable to a Daily Mail reader, I was very confused.
"By ignoring the idea of commercial success, I feel wonderful after making an album. I don't sit there panicking going 'Oh my God, did I totally compromise everything?', because I don't compromise in the studio."
He added: "When I collaborated with Alec [Empire] and Matthew Herbert and Tilda Swinton on this album, it wasn't a compromising situation."
