The 'Hero' singer, who is currently working on her twelfth studio record Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, told followers on Twitter about her unusual working hours.
"In the studio. driving the engineer crazy cos I'm a control freak and once again we're STARTING at 1:16 am..perfectly normal," she wrote.
In a further update two hours later, Carey revealed that the long working hours were a result of her insisting on singing all the backing vocals: "Still in the studio. Hopefully I'll finish this one tonite. It has a lot of bv's and I'm doing them but you know I like that mess."
The 40-year-old singer has reportedly been working with Timbaland, James "Big Jim" Wright, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Brian Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri on the new record.
Carey recently confirmed that the first single to be released will be 'Obsessed'.
