Blur were recognised with the inspiration award and the Welsh group were given the maverick gong.
Other winners included breakthrough act White Lies, while The Pretty Things were named as the Mojo heroes.
John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono was recognised with the Mojo Lifetime Achievement Award.
Editor Phil Alexander said: "She may have been married to one of the most famous men in the world, but she also helped change music as we know it in her own right.
"First, by introducing avant-garde sensibilities to her husband but, just as significantly, by continuing to push the boundaries of what was deemed the norm way after that."
The best album prize went to Paul Weller for his ninth solo record 22 Dreams, while The Zombies 1968 LP Odessey & Oracle picked up the classic album award.
