The singer told Drowned In Sound that he had recently been in touch with his former bandmates.
Regarding a possible comeback, Bixler-Zavala said: "I don't know what to say about that really. We've been making amends with a lot of the members and having some really good talks with them.
"We've been trying to get our financial business in order because a lot of people have been ripping off that band really badly, as far as the business side goes."
He added: "I wouldn't mind it. Y'know, it might happen, we just have to iron out a lot of personal things. A lot of it we've dealt with already and I've apologised for a lot of things I've said and the way it ended. We'll see what happens."
However, former bandmember Jim Ward told Buzzgrinder: "I haven't got much to say about anything except with songs which I will continue to make and release - cheers."
At The Drive-In announced that they would be taking an "indefinite hiatus" in 2001, with Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López forming The Mars Volta and Ward, Paul Hinojos, and Tony Hajjar founding Sparta.
Hinojos later left Sparta to join The Mars Volta in 2005, while Sparta themselves split in 2007.
