A US website had suggested that the 'Girlfriend' singer was scheduled to receive an award at the Napanee Ontario Multicultural festival over the weekend, but fans were left disappointed when she failed to show.
However, a statement posted on the star's MySpace page has insisted that she was "not committed" to the appearance and had "no knowledge" of the event.
"She appreciates the honour, however to say that she 'flaked and didn't show up' is completely untrue, as she had no knowledge of this event whatsoever."
The 24-year-old, who moved to Napanee as a young child, had been selected to receive a prize in recognition of her cultural contribution.
She is currently in the US working on her fourth studio album.
