Members of Sonic Youth have said that they were surprised to find out that guests on Jools Holland's TV show are expected to play a boogie-woogie introduction with the host.

Frontwoman Kim Gordon expressed disbelief when she was told that the group would have to join Depeche Mode, Lily Allen, Taj Mahal and Raphael Sadiq on the musical opening for their recent appearance on Later... With Jools Holland, The Stool Pigeon reports.

Gordon said: "Are you serious?"

Bassist Mark Ibold explained: "It's a forced weird party vibe thing."

Singer Thurston Moore said: "I don't remember doing it last time we were on. We were on, like, the sixth episode. It has to be boogie-woogie? I'll boogie-woogie with him."

Sonic Youth first appeared on Later... in 1992, performing the single 'Sugar Kane'. They returned to the show in April for the first time.
