Frontman Black Francis told NME that the band were happy to take a backseat for the disc's production, which includes a 54-page book and new artwork.
"'Minotaur' is basically a vehicle for Vaughan Oliver and his artwork. He's hijacked our five records," said Francis. "He's the visual representative of the band, so instead of us being in the frontseat and him in the backseat, it's sort of flipped around in a way."
Bassist Kim Deal added: "Vaughan was really excited to do all the stuff. If he wants to do stuff then that's great."
Francis also joked that he'd "started to paint" and is considering asking Vaughan for a "couple pages in the booklet".
