The veteran rocker was joined on the Pyramid Stage by the E Street Band, as they played hits such as 'Dancing In The Dark', 'Born To Run' and 'The Promised Land', reports BBC News.
Springsteen made repeated runs from the stage to the crowd. Spectator Siobhan Farmer, 28, said: "He was down with his fans and cared that he was here. I wasn't a fan before but he certainly puts energy into it."
The singer-songwriter, nicknamed 'The Boss', opened his set with an acoustic version of Joe Strummer's 'Coma Girl'. The late Clash frontman reportedly wrote the song about his love of the Somerset festival.
Midway through the show, The Gaslight Anthem singer Brian Fallon teamed up with the star on 'No Surrender', while earlier in the day, Springsteen collaborated with the fellow New Jersey natives during their performance.
More than 175,000 music fans are at the event, which is tonight headlined by the recently reformed Blur.
