Frontman Brandon Flowers told the NME that the group has always considered making an LP of other artists' work.
Flowers said: "It's something that we've always talked about doing and we're still talking about.
"It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals. I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself! I've gone through everything from Neil Diamond to The Cars."
Drummer Ronnie Vanucci added that he would like to include tracks by Genesis, Cindi Lauper and Iggy Pop on the album, while he has also been experimenting with songs by Fleet Foxes.
The Killers headlined the Hard Rock Calling festival in London's Hyde Park on June 26, while the following day saw Fleet Foxes support Neil Young at the same event.
