Marr: 'Smiths offered $50m to reform'

Johnny Marr has said that he and Morrissey have been offered $50 million (£30 million) to reform The Smiths for a number of live shows.

The guitarist told XFM that the amount of money being spoken about was "really abstract" and "pretty random".

Regarding a possible reunion, Marr said: "It's absolutely nothing to do with money, because the amounts of money that we've been offered, or that I've heard we've been offered, is pretty obscene, it's pretty gross.

"This will be all over the flipping internet - all those twerps running around with it - but seeing as you asked, I think we were offered $50 million for three shows. It might have been five shows."

Last year it was claimed that The Smiths were poised to reunite for the Coachella music festival, but both Marr and Morrissey denied the reports.
