The Black Eyed Peas singer said that she made the decision to clean up her language after seeing young girls in the audience when touring her solo record, People reports.
"I wasn't trying to be a role model with The Dutchess," she told Marie Claire. "[It was] seeing little girls in the audience with their mums. [It] made me think about what I do on stage a little bit more. I had to watch my mouth, because it can be filthy."
Last week, the 34-year-old star revealed that she dyed her hair from blonde to brunette in an effort "to evolve".
The Black Eyed Peas release their new single 'I Gotta Feeling' later this summer.
