One of the scenes from the recently-leaked promo depicts Carey as a hoodie-wearing man lusting over a glamorous celebrity, prompting rumours that it was intended as a dig towards the rapper.
Eminem had referenced Carey in his track 'Bagpipes From Baghdad', which suggested that they had enjoyed a previous relationship and he was desperate to win her back from husband Nick Cannon.
However, writing on her Twitter account, Carey insisted that she was "not at any point in the video playing a specific person", saying: "I'm dressed as a stalker in three different ensembles."
She added: "It was fun playing JoJo (the stalker/doorman/photographer's assistant). The photographer is played by the world famous, legendary Patrick Demarchelier! He was so nice to make a cameo."
