The singer recently announced that her comeback LP will go on sale on September 1, while album track 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength' has already leaked online.
The event was thrown by her long-time producer Clive Davis, as Houston debuted nine songs from the much-anticipated I Look To You for stars such as Alicia Keys, Martha Stewart and Diane Sawyer, People reports.
"It took us three and a half years to reach this point," said Houston, who performed hits including 'Million Dollar Bill' and her cover of Leon Russell's 1970 classic 'A Song For You'.
Houston's mother Cissy, cousin Dionne Warwick and 16-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina were also in attendance.
The star added: "I'm tired of the old songs on the radio. I'm tired of people taking off their clothes... I want to hear a beautiful lyric and a beautiful melody. And I just hope that what you heard tonight, that's what you got."
Earlier this month, Houston admitted that she was ready to quit the music industry for good last year.
