The local council's licensing applications sub-committee agreed last week that the festival could increase its capacity to 82,000 from 78,500. It will move up to 85,000 in 2011. Festival Republic will also be allowed to sell 13,000 further 'early arrivals' tickets for the Wednesday of the event.
The council has also allowed organisers to increase the sound levels limit from 98 decibels to 107 decibels.
Reading and Leeds Festivals take place from August 28 to August 30 and will be headlined by Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon.
Other acts performing across the weekend include Kaiser Chiefs, Placebo, The Prodigy, Maximo Park, Ian Brown, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Glasvegas.
