The 'Shark In The Water' singer, who was included on the BBC Sound of 2009 poll, insisted that she was unfazed by the attention.
"I never believe in all that stuff," she told BBC Newsbeat. "I just get on with the music.
"It's really flattering but I've always said from the beginning, this is an evolving process and it's going to be hard work."
The star praised the calibre of female artists that have broken through over the past year, including Florence And The Machine.
"The stuff that is coming out now is very cool though. I really love Florence. Her voice really gives me goosebumps," she said.
"There's always been female singers. Last year the biggest stars were Duffy, Amy Winehouse and Adele."
VV Brown released debut album Travelling Like The Light on July 13.
