The Queens Of The Stone Age singer co-produced the Sheffield band's Humbug LP in the Mojave Desert, California. Regular Arctic Monkeys collaborator James Ford also worked on the record.
When asked why he wanted to work with the four-piece, the frontman said: "I was sucked in at first by the lyrics. Alex sounded like a rare poet playing music - he has a special gift for the gab." He also singled out drummer Matt Helders as "one of the best" in rock 'n' roll.
Speaking about the new disc, Homme told US GQ: "This is the record where they get weird, grow up and trip out."
Humbug is released on August 24. Lead single 'Crying Lightning' is available to download now.
