Preston: 'Guitar music is depressing'

The singer, who releases his debut solo single 'Dressed To Kill' later this month, said that all the "exciting" and "interesting" music coming out at the moment is from electronic acts.
"When I got into indie music, the whole ethos was about guitar bands," he told DS. "But now guitar bands are the most tedious and depressing thing ever."
Preston also claimed that Brooklyn duo MGMT were partly responsible for inspiring his change of musical direction.
"[MGMT are] one of the most important bands to happen to music since The Strokes. When The Strokes came out, guitar music was cool and interesting. Now that MGMT have come out, electronic music is exciting, experimental and interesting," he said.
"It's helped so many weird little things get on the radio and I'd like to think I'm someone in that category."
When asked if he was disappointed to leave behind The Ordinary Boys, he said: "I really am, but I just couldn't carry it on. I was starting to pretend I was into all this stuff that I really wasn't into anymore.
"I don't think I was ever that into it anyway. We just got given a stamp and we tried to live up to it, but we weren't even that good at it."
