The production, based around the band's 2004 album of the same name, is directed by Michael Mayer and will debut at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre on September 4, according to NME. Tickets became available on Friday from the theatre's official website. Phone and in-person sales will commence from August 16.
"I thought American Idiot had a lot in common with something like The Rocky Horror Picture Show," Armstrong told The AP. "It would be great to see a film made out of it someday, too."
American Idiot is scheduled to run at the theatre until October 11. Although it will not feature the band performing, organisers have claimed that it will still "definitely rock".
The '21 Guns' rockers have also recently been confirmed to appear at this year's MTV VMAs.
