The frontman, also known as Ray Gun, told thelondonpaper that the band are not a joke.
He said: "We're not in the same box as The Darkness. What we do is very different, and although we come across as funny and silly, there is an extremely serious side to what we do."
He added: "We all have a real passion for what we do and we believe in the entertainment factor - the showman thing.
"We want to bring back the days of flamboyant frontmen and give everything with both barrels. If people aren't into it then we're like, 'Sod off!'"
The singer recently issued an "apology" after his band became the subject of a mocking internet viral video including footage from a recent TV interview.
