Depeche Mode have cancelled two shows in California, it has been reported.

Lead singer Dave Gahan was under doctor's orders to have "complete vocal rest" for their two postponed dates at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View on August 12 and the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in San Diego on August 14, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

The band's current world tour, in support of their 12th album Sounds Of The Universe, has previously been marred with Gahan falling ill prior to having surgery to remove a cancerous tumour.

Live Nation stated that the two performances will not be rescheduled for later this year. However, the group are expected to play two sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Sunday and Monday.
