Mani attacks 'mediocre, dull' acts

Gary 'Mani' Mounfield has criticised "career-orientated" modern bands that have followed in the footsteps of The Stone Roses.

The group's former bassist and current Primal Scream member issued a statement following the 20th anniversary reissue of his old act's debut LP.

Of the album, Mani said: "20 years on and it is still fresh and stands out amidst a torrent of mediocrity, career-orientated, dull as dishwater, safe, unimaginative music that dares to challenge for our crown.

"We were light years ahead of our time, and The Stone Roses' album will always remain light years ahead of the new so-called supergroups."

He added: "Read 'em and weep guys, you all know who you are! Back to school with you and try harder. Listen and learn from the masters."

Mani recently said that he and the rest of The Stone Roses knew that their self-titled debut would be "an immense piece of music" before it was even recorded.
