The 'Remedy' singer, real name Victoria Hesketh, praised contemporaries including Florence And The Machine and Ladyhawke for breaking down musical boundaries.
"It's really exciting, everyone's doing things on their own terms and you don't feel like you have to dress like Britney and sing rubbish songs," she told Radio 1.
"Everytime I see Florence I seem to be drunk," she joked. "It's really nice to bump into people at festivals, I've seen Ladyhawke a lot recently too."
The 24-year-old added that she felt under pressure after topping the BBC Sound of 2009 poll.
"There was a lot of expectation placed on the album, but as long as you stay focused and happy, it's fine," she said.
According to midweek sales figures, new single 'Remedy' is currently at number six in the singles chart.
