Veteran musician Larry Knechtel has passed away at the age of 69.

The keyboardist recorded and played live with a clutch of icons over the course of his lengthy career, including Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Ray Charles and The Doors.

According to NME, Knechtel suffered a heart attack on August 20, which was subsequently confirmed by the Valley Hills Funeral Home in Washington.

He won a Grammy in 1970 for his arrangement of Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', and was instrumental in helping fashion Phil Spector's renowned Wall of Sound production style.

More recently, Knechtel played on the Dixie Chicks' 2006 album Taking The Long Way.
