The 34-year-old revealed that the group feel they are under intense pressure to write an album that will better their fourth record.
Turner told BBC 6 Music that they have "lots of bits and bobs down".
He said: "If it's three, four, or five years' time, this next album has got to be the absolute 'dog's', so we'll see."
As previously reported, frontman Guy Garvey said that Elbow have about 40 songs written which could make the shortlist for the album.
