Gallagher quit the band after claiming that he could no longer work with his brother Liam.
According to the Daily Record, Ure described the decision as "admirable".
"I respect Noel Gallagher for being big enough to stand up and say, 'Enough is enough'," he explained. "That sparring brotherly love-hate relationship is what drove Oasis on and kept the engine running - maybe it got to the point that it was so painful.
"You can't go on stage with someone pushing all your buttons all the time and can't go on and pretend it doesn't affect you."
He added: "Liam seems quite a difficult character to get along with and I don't think it matters about the details of how it fell apart."
The guitarist recently described his brother as a "f**king moron".
