Calvin Harris stands by BPI tirade

Calvin Harris has insisted that he does not regret his decision to rant about the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on his Twitter page.

The Scottish DJ described the organisation as a "useless shower of c**ts" in July after it removed the video for his 'Ready For The Weekend' single from YouTube.

Reflecting on the row, Harris told the Daily Record: "I don't think I'm better than anyone else or that people should listen to me but it is my Twitter page.

"The fact I did that rant against the BPI three days after the video had been down and that the video went back up tells more about them than it does me."

The star added that he is also unsatisfied with the work of the Performing Rights Society (PRS), which collects royalties on behalf of artists for public performances.

He commented: "The PRS took the British pop videos off YouTube. That's another body that claim they work for the artist.

"The PRS collect money for radio plays and they have only in recent years started collecting money from Radio 1 on a daily basis. You didn't get a true reflection of what songs are being played on the radio because they just sampled the station's plays. That meant bigger artistes get money they haven't earned.

"The system is wrong even if it is better than it was before. These things get me annoyed but nobody wants to talk about it for fear of being seen in a bad light."

Harris topped the UK album chart with Ready For The Weekend last month.
