The former Dirty Pretty Things and Libertines guitarist is currently demoing material earmarked for a future record, according to NME.
Barat is believed to have been writing songs since Dirty Pretty Things split last year and will announce details of solo gigs soon.
Though currently unsigned, the star is apparently in talks with record labels about a new deal, while he is also rumoured to be reforming with ex-bandmate Pete Doherty for next year's festivals.
