The singer failed to appear at last night's Mercury Music Prize ceremony, prompting fears about his health.
Allan's cousin, guitarist Rab Allan, told the Daily Record that he has not been seen since Friday.
"We're not supposed to talk about it," he said. "He has been working really, really hard and he probably needs a break."
He added that he would be very worried if the singer did not appear in two days as the band are due to fly to Boston to support Kings of Leon.
"It should concern me," Allan continued. "We're like brothers. He's been saying for ages that he needed a break.
"His mum hasn't heard from him but we have told her not to worry. Everyone is panicking. We don't know if he's going to come to the gigs. We'll have to wait and see."
Allan added that the singer is probably "away with a woman", but added: "I miss him. The message is, 'James, please get in touch'."
