Influential US indie group Pavement are planning to reform for a string of shows in New York, say reports.

According to blog Brookyln Vegan, the band will perform at Central Park Summerstage in September 2010. Sources have contacted US music website Pitchfork confirming the rumours.

Guitarist Scott Kannberg hinted earlier this year that the band might consider playing the Coachella festival, while frontman Stephen Malkmus and bassist Mark Ibold have also spoken positively about performing together again.

The group split in 1999 after a final gig at London's Brixton Academy. Their albums Slanted and Enchanted, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Terror Twilight are considered some of the most influential indie albums of the 1990s.
