The off-Broadway show, which is an adaptation of their 2004 album of the same title, has been directed by Michael Mayer.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said he had "no concerns" about the musical, which he described as "a broader version of the album".
However, bassist Mike Dirnt added that the group would steer clear of critics' reviews. "You can't, or else they affect how you feel about your own work," he said. "I learned the hard way."
American Idiot: The Musical is scheduled to run at Berkeley's Roda Theatre until November 1.
