The 23-year-old sang her single 'Paparazzi' during the telecast, while she staggered around the stage with fake blood dripping out from her ribcage. The singer then rubbed the blood on her face, before she fell to the ground and was lifted into the air with a golden halo framing her.
It is understood that Lady GaGa - then known as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - had attended the school. A source told the New York Post that her former teachers were shown a video of the routine and were said to be "not amused" by it.
"When someone showed the nuns a video of her bloody performance at Sunday night's Awards, the good sisters were not amused," the insider said.
A school spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
It was reported earlier that Lady GaGa had planned to walk the red carpet at the awards ceremony with a lion.
