Taio Cruz has revealed that Cheryl Cole missed out on the chance to record his chart-topping single 'Break Your Heart'.

Cruz told The Sun that he originally wrote the song for the Girls Aloud star but decided to release it himself after her management dithered over whether to accept it.

"I was asked to write two songs for Cheryl, one of which was 'Break Your Heart'," he explained.

"But they took so long to get back that when they did, we had to tell them, 'It's currently radio playlisted, it's not going to be very easy to get back!' It was quite funny."

'Stand Up', the other track Cruz penned for Cole, will still appear on her forthcoming debut solo album Three Words. The singer-songwriter has described the song as an "absolute club banger".

'Break Your Heart' secured the top spot in yesterday's UK singles chart.
