The DJ claimed that he would "definitely" consider playing Buchanan's material on his new 1Xtra drivetime show, which begins on September 28.
"I think she has got a good shot at going it alone, whether she can win or not is up to her. She's definitely got a chance, because she's so well known. I hope she can do it," he told DS.
"If she makes the right record, I won't hesitate to play it. Something working and urban. But most recent Sugababes stuff has been cheese."
The presenter, who is nominated for best DJ at the MOBO Awards next week, added that he is hoping to woo Buchanan at the event in Glasgow.
"The split might be good news for me because if she hits hard times she might take me a bit more seriously than she has done in the past," he said.
"I've been asking her out forever, but I still get the same response."
Buchanan is expected to launch a solo career after her departure from the Sugababes was announced yesterday.
