Tim Westwood has promised that his new Drivetime show on 1Xtra will be "entirely different" from his previous Saturday night slot on Radio 1.
The DJ, who has fronted the Radio 1 Rap Show since 1994, revealed that the programme will include new features, music and entertainment news based around urban and hip-hop music.
"This new show is entirely different. I'll have to get my afternoon voice on. It's a logical progression for me to move on. This is a tremendous opportunity to go in and do the type of show I've been wanting to do for a while," he told DS.
"I want it to be funny, packed with good features and to make people think. I want to go in there strong and I feel really good about it."
He added: "I want to make 1Xtra bigger and I think I can bring a big audience over there - it can't always be the best kept secret.
"On a Saturday my whole thing is to tear it down, scream into the mic and get you amped up for the weekend. That Saturday night ready for the club flavour."
Westwood's Drivetime show on 1Xtra starts on September 28 and will broadcast weekdays from 4pm to 7pm.
