Trace, older brother of Miley, also revealed that he is inspired by the group's teenage fanbase.
"Mason [Musso] and I wrote the song when we were 17 and we never thought it would get this big," he told Sugar. "Everywhere I go people are singing it - I couldn't be happier."
The singer further explained that problems he faced during his time at school gave him the determination to make it as a musician.
"Teenagers are the reason we do what we do. It's hard for young people to get heard sometimes, so we want to sing songs that express the things we're all going through," he continued. "My teen years were a real breaking point for me - I had a really hard time at school, but then I met my band and went on the road.
"My advice would be to follow your dreams, do what you want, never take anyone else's opinion and live your life free."
