The 'Spinnin' rapper beat off competition from the likes of La Roux and Florence and the Machine to claim the music award earlier this month. She revealed that she was sure of her success before the ceremony even began.
"I knew I was gonna win the Mercury," she told the Manchester Evening News. "That's what I actually said when I arrived on the day and I was at the conference thing.
"I was speaking to the people who'd been betting on me. I didn't put money on myself because I'm not a gambler, I'd taken my chances already. But I met someone the other day after winning it who said, 'Thanks, you've just won me £1,300'."
Debelle, 26, went on to state that she is enjoying her newfound fame.
"The Mercury changed everything, Last night I was at Downing Street until the early evening, and then I went to a nail place and got a big bag of goodies and nail varnish and stuff, and then I went to Amy Winehouse's party and I got a PlayStation 3 free.
"This is the best job I've ever had."
