The band originally parted in 1993 after the release of Republic but returned in 1998 and recorded two albums of new material, before breaking up again in 2007.
On the chance of another comeback, Sumner told Rolling Stone: "I'll give you my stock answer because I have to be very tactful about what I say.
"I think too many bad things have been said and done, so I don't think so. It was a different situation ten years ago. This one's turned a bit nasty."
Sumner has since formed Bad Lieutenant with New Order's Stephen Morris and Phil Cunningham.
The band's debut album Never Cry Another Tear is released on October 13 and also features Blur bassist Alex James, guitarist Jake Evans and drummer Jack Mitchell.
